  • How Much Does It REALLY Cost to Maintain a Defender in Lanka?

Machanla,
Let's be real for a moment. Everyone talks about how "reliable" Defenders are. But when you're the one fixing bushings every 2 months, changing seals, chasing down gearbox leaks, and praying the AC blows cold air, it adds up.

I'm running a 2005 TD5 Defender 110. Love it to bits, but want to share and also hear from others — how much are you actually spending on maintenance per year?

I did a rough calculation:

  • Suspension work (every 6–8 months): ~25k
  • Engine oil + filter (every 5,000km): ~10k
  • Diesel pump service (last year): 35k
  • Electrical gremlins: price = patience 😭

So all in all, maybe 100–120k per year just to keep it healthy?

Let's be honest with each other and also maybe help new buyers understand what they're getting into.

Respect for posting this machan. People always show off their shiny Defender on IG, but never show the oil leak under the gearbox 🤣

I've got a 2.4 Puma and yes, same story. I budget 10–12k monthly for basic maintenance. That includes small upgrades too — like replacing brittle hoses, wiper motor, or glow plugs.

It's not a cheap ride, but like I always say: You don't buy a Defender to save money. You buy it to feel something. And every time I climb out of mine after a trip to Ella, I remember why I put up with all the headaches.
