Title: Brake Pedal Too High! Anyone Know How to Fix This on My 90 Project?
Post by: ClassicDefenderMan on Jun 20, 2025, 12:39 PM
Oi guys,

So, I'm wrapping up the last few bits of my 90 project. Never really drove the donor vehicle properly, so not sure if this was a thing before or if it happened when I was putting the pedal box back together. 😅

The brake pedal box is from an early 90 (VIN plate sideways), and it uses the old school Series 3 style rubber for the pedal. Yesterday, I threw the clutch pedal back in, adjusted it to the manual's recommended 140mm height, but now I'm seeing that the brake pedal sits way higher than the clutch one. So, basically, the driving position is gonna be pretty uncomfortable. 🤦♂️

I can't seem to find a way to adjust the brake pedal height. There's a threaded hole on the pedal box above the brake light switch, which I thought maybe a bolt could go in there to lower the pedal, but it doesn't show up in the parts diagram. 🤔 I'm thinking even if I try to lower it, it could mess with the servo and brake master and cause some binding issues.

The only thing I'm thinking could work is shortening the clevis rod between the pedal and the servo, but I don't remember that being adjustable. Anyone else run into this? Have any ideas?

I checked both my TD5 and a 300Tdi, and the brake and clutch pedals are almost the same height, with the throttle pedal sitting a bit lower in the footwell.

Any suggestions, boys? Need some help here!
