Title: The Mysterious Wiring Gremlin: Who Else Battles Ghost Lights & Wipers?
Post by: Rohan on Jun 30, 2025, 11:36 AM
Aney machanla, I think my Defender is haunted 😂

Few days ago, the wipers started moving even though the switch was OFF. Then the dashboard lights randomly flickered while I was driving to Kurunegala. I even had one moment where the right indicator came on when I hit the brake!

I took it to an electrician in Nugegoda who said "Landy wiring is like devil dance – one wrong step and all hell breaks loose!"

I've heard that old wiring looms tend to degrade in our heat and humidity. Is it worth replacing the whole harness or should I just patch and survive?

Anyone done a full rewire in SL? Any shops or DIY advice?

Machang you're not alone 😂 My TD5 once started the horn on its own when I went over a pothole in Pannipitiya. Full panic!

I finally gave up and replaced the entire loom. Cost me around 60k with labour, but I sleep peacefully now. If you're not good with electrics, better get a pro. Try "AutoElec Kandy" – good workmanship and no short-cuts.
