  • Do We Really Need a Snorkel in Sri Lanka? Or Is It Just for Looks?

Hi all,
I've seen a lot of Defenders in Colombo with big snorkels – full safari spec – but most of them never leave the paved road. I know a snorkel is useful for water crossings and dusty trails, but do we really need one here? Or is it just a flex?

I'm debating whether to install one on my 90, but don't want to waste 40–50K on something that's just for Instagram.

Anyone here actually used a snorkel for what it's made for?

Haha nice topic bro. Snorkels in Colombo are like raincoats in the desert 😅

That being said, I've used mine properly during a river crossing in Belihuloya. Water was almost bonnet-high, and my Safari Snorkel kept the engine breathing perfectly.

Also, if you drive a lot in dry, dusty roads like Anuradhapura or Mannar side, the elevated air intake helps reduce dust into the filter.

But if you're just running Colombo–Kandy road and parking at Crescat – save your money for better tires or bushings!
