Hey all,
So, I'm thinking of restoring a classic Defender 110 that I picked up from the south. It's been sitting around for a while and needs some serious work. I've got the time and budget, but I have no clue where to start. Can anyone here share their restoration experience in Sri Lanka? Which mechanics or garages are good for restoring older models? Also, any tips on what to look out for during restoration?

Ado machan,
Restoring an old 110 is a serious project, but it's gonna be so worth it! A few tips to keep in mind:

  • Start with the Frame – Make sure the frame is solid. Rust can be a big issue, especially in older Defenders.
  • Body Panels – You can get good-quality body panels from Defender Parts LK or Rover Brothers in Colombo. They specialize in Land Rover parts and have a lot of stuff for restoration.
  • Engine & Transmission – A rebuild might be a good idea if you want the Defender to last long. Look into doing a 300Tdi or TD5 engine swap if you want to upgrade.
  • Mechanics in Sri Lanka – Land Rover Specialist Garage is pretty reliable for older models. They've done a lot of resto work, especially in Colombo.

Restoration takes time, so be patient! You'll end up with a beast of a ride in the end, machan! 💥
